Taylor Cameron Upsahl was a bit overwhelmed to see her song Drugs appear in a staggering two million videos back in 2019, but going viral on TikTok as a young artist is a surefire kickstart for most careers. However, the 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Phoenix didn’t come by success all that easily, because she’s been involved in music in one way or another since she was a child. She learned to play the piano and guitar at the age of five, after which she went on to study both instruments at the Arizona School for the Arts. Upsahl is the rising star of the alternative pop scene, who writes her ultra-personal lyrics herself, and who’s also composed songs for other stars such as Dua Lipa and Anne-Marie. Her long-awaited debut album Lady Jesus turned out to be one of the most talked-about and exciting pop releases of 2021.
