The singer-songwriter Robin Kester is bound to charm one and all with her sultry, soft voice and indie folk influences. Think retro guitars, vintage synthesizers and a vintage vibraphone. Sometimes you can detect the serene minimalism of Julia Jacklin and Sufjan Stevens, the next you’re put in mind of Kate Bush and Nick Drake. Kester’s stunning mini-album This Is Not A Democracy from 2020 features influences from 70s pop, and electronic and chamber pop. The editors of 3voor12 Utrecht chose it as the best album of 2020. In 2022, a demo version of Kester’s song Day Is Done was even used in an American film, Press Play. The singer has performed twice at Eurosonic Noorderslag and last year at SXSW in Texas. Recently, her wonderful debut album Honeycomb Shades was released, which was jubilantly received by the Dutch press.
