One of the great trailblazers within the low countries’ heavy rock scene hails from Belgium. Brutus is a trio that manages to skillfully pound musical styles such as post-rock, punk and metal into an energy-packed fireball that renders their live shows an overwhelming and immersive experience. Singer/drummer Stefanie Mannaerts, guitarist Stijn Vanhoegaerden and bassist Peter Mulders have put out several studio albums so far, expertly steering away from the beaten track for the past decade. Through their own backgrounds, influences and style, the Leuven act have carved out their own niche within the rock spectrum. Brutus have played many European festivals and are now heading for the Pinkpop grounds, where, with their characteristic alternation between primal pounding and subtle splendour, they’re certain to live up to their status as the most dynamic band in the Benelux.
